Energy saving, global saving of use (between 20 and 25%) compared to traditional roasters and innovative insulating materials are the main factors of the new products branded STA Impianti s.r.l.

Following the latest technological upgrade, inside our machines, the ceramic fiber used to theoretically isolate the combustion chamber has been completely removed. After years of studies, we have finally been able to innovate the technology of our machines and focus on energy saving. This guarantees excellent results and a flexibility of roasting never reached before.

Many customers have now decided to adopt this new solution and are fully satisfied with it; although the pre-heating and roasting times have been considerably reduced (in favor of considerable energy savings) the yield is still excellent, indeed improved.

 

What does it change for the company?

In addition to the considerable savings in energy and gas, the work of the operator also changes; furthermore, the company almost definitively eliminates some of the pollutants present up to now (residues of polluting materials and combustion recirculation). Through precise data tracking and recorded within the product processing sheet, the customer can determine exactly the cost of processing.

Implementation of a new software and the Industry 4.0 project.

Another fundamental novelty on which STA Impianti has worked intensively is the implementation of new software. Thanks to new interfaces for the management of the plants and the development of electronic components of the latest generation, the traceability and the auto-generation of the production lots, it is possible to have the complete control on all the parameters of the roaster.

Another fundamental feature is the communication with the company management system! Thanks to the connection with it, every company can immediately and perfectly know the production data, the stock and the laboratory data for the control of the incoming coffee.

Caffè Mokey, a long-time roaster based in Muggio (MB), continues to trust STA Impianti for supplying its coffee roasting machines. STA Impianti, a company based in Emilia specialized in the manufacturing of roasting machines, has recently installed in Caffè Mokey’s facilities a new-generation “Futura K” type solution, with a capacity of 180 kg, set up to increase production levels, while also allowing a more precise and flexible roasting process. 

The protagonists of the story:

Mokey was founded in 1966 and boasts over 50 years of experience in the coffee industry. Managed by the Colombo family, now in its third generation, Mokey has become a point of reference in the Monza e Brianza province, and can boast over 1000 customers in the coffee shops and capsules markets, in Italy and abroad. The blend selection, the origins and the quality of the green coffee are carefully selected by the owner, while the processing and packaging of the product are supervised by the highly skilled staff. Both show the same passion for the work as the founder did 50 years ago. STA Impianti, headquartered in Bologna, is also a point of reference in the coffee industry, having a long experience in the designing, building and marketing of roasting systems and boasting a large base of machines installed throughout the world. 

Futura K 180: the flexible “Green Machine”

Towards the end of last year, Mokey, a longtime partner of STA Impianti, decided to equip itself with a new machine made in Bologna, the Futura roasting machine series “K”, in the 180 kg capacity, fitted to meet the specific production needs of Mokey. This is a cutting-edge machine featuring a series of inverters that allow for significant energy savings if compared to machines of the previous generation. The roasting machine is also equipped with a latest generation heat generator that allows for a substantial reduction in gas consumption, while also giving the machine great flexibility and high precision. With the monitoring of the Maillard reaction, the operator can intervene in real time on the roasting parameters, increasing or decreasing the heat, so as to obtain optimal results, without ruining or wasting the product.

Small to medium batches

The machine capacity, 180 kg, is perfectly aligned with Mokey’s needs, representing a good compromise between a low capacity and a big batch system. The STA roaster can also work with much smaller raw material quantities, of about 15-20 kg. This is useful especially when the customer needs to roast small batches, for instance for high quality coffee. The ability of working with reduced coffee quantities is also useful for tests and for setting up the machine in the most efficient way based on the production batch. The machine also boasts those features that have made STA solutions true market “bestsellers”, among which are the great durability and quality of construction.

When less is best

STA Impianti has always been manufacturing machines with combustion chambers completely made of heat resistant steel. After the latest technology upgrade, the company has completely removed the ceramic fiber, which was used for the combustion chamber’s thermal insulation and to protect workers in accordance with safety regulations. STA decided to implement this new technology after years of research, as it guarantees excellent results and a never before seen flexibility in the roasting process. Using the latest roasting machines, clients can achieve global energy savings of between 20% and 25% over the most common devices on the market. Such data can be constantly verified from electricity, gas and time meters installed on our roasting machines; this data is then recorded in the work sheet of the product. Thanks to this technological evolution. the client is able to obtain a higher quality product, uncontaminated by polluting material residues, as well as emissions from combustion recirculation, being also capable of tracking useful metrics in real time in order to calculate processing costs.

Not just hardware

The company’s mechanical innovations are complemented by software innovations, which allow the full control of all roasting machine’s parameters through comprehensive customization and the deployment of specific interfaces for plant management. The software was developed by STA and, together with next-generation electronic components, allows for the automatic tracking and creation of production batches, thanks to the machines’ ability to communicate with the business database. This enables the immediate collection of production and inventory data, as well as laboratory data to check incoming coffee shipments, for a full remote, real time management of the plant and, ultimately, better production efficiencies and a higher quality product.
